Today, I got a female Festae for my 55 gallon. I would like to thank the Colorado MFKers for giving the heads up about Fish Palace in another forum. That place is definitely the best LFS around (I am leaving out Mike's). Iv'e been going to Todd's Tropical Fish for ever. I had no idea I just had to drive 5 minutes further to find this great LFS.

I can already see why these are called Red Terror's. She is 4 inches and she is attacking my 6 inch pleco, and she is going crazy trying to catch dithers I put in there with her.

Her stripes are fading in and out a lot. I know they look best in there breeding colors, but how is she going to end up looking? Does anyone have a female Festae alone? If so, how are the colors? The main reason I bought this fish was because of the great looks; I just hope she maintains them being in a tank with no males.

Cool, any pics? I'd like to get a female to go with my 7" F0 male, but I don't think things would go very well as far as the community goes.

she should show better colors as she gets bigger. aslo if you can find another big fish that wont outgrow your 55 gallon and can get along with her then she will hold color much better. doesnt really have to pair up with her but as long as they can put up with one another i think you would be ok with 2 in a 55. they say females get 12 inches max but in aquaria most i see is around 7-9 max. find a simular fish that tops out around 6-7 inches and she should show full color almost all the time as she would be dominant and proud. thats my experience with festa anyway. i have my 6-7 inch female with passive fish and fish that are way more dominant then her and her patterns never fade.

nice pickup and enjoy as i think they are the best looking cichlid out there.

What did you do with your texan?

At least I hope it is a female:confused:. I am now reading that males have pearls, but so do juvis- mine has pearls. Everytime I approach the tank to take a pic- its colors fade. The bars are dark black on the fish until I get close. Also, you can't tell in this pic, but there is some black in the front part of the dorsal:

I took him to Hart's Corner. Normally I would have seen if any of you guys wanted him first, but this was not a planned purchase today, and I didn't have room for both.
