i just got back from lfs and picked a couple .75 to 1" inch trimacs. is there any good ways to make sure they are not low grade flowerhorn? they came from the most reputable lfs in the pittsburgh area. the lfs gets alot of there fish from rapps and other reputable breeders and wholesalers.

usually from my experience the trimacs usually have a very distinct color pattern where the redish color is mainly in the front and not all over the lower half of body and if its a low grade flowerhorn piss it off and see how dark the stripes are if they are too light to see then its probally a flowerhorn

If you bought it as a Trimac from a reputable breeder then is should be a Trimac. Can you post a picture?

what kinda growth rate should should i expext, i feed my jack dempseys hikari bio gold, market shrimp blood worms and earth worms. that diet should work for trimac?

If they are barely 1" I think even the smallest Bio-Gold pellets are still a little too big. I feed Omega One Color flakes & Veggie flakes and Omega One Marine Pellets. You could treat with tiney pieces of shrimp, chopped earth worms & brine shrimp. At this size I still feed three times a day, Once they hit about 2" twice a day feedings is enough IMO. If your fish is a male with regular weekly water changes and a good diet you could expect an inch or possably more a month for the first 8, 9 months and could concivabley be looking at a 10 to 12" fish by the end of the first year. Just don't over feed it to get accelerated growth, that IMO leads to problems later on down the road, once the fish is about 4-5" just feed once a day. What size tank are you keeping them in?

right now they are in a 40 breeder gonna go to the 125 as soon as i rehome the fahaka puffer, yeah the pellets are definitely to big right now, do these guys benefit from occasional greens in there diet? oops i just seen the veggie flakes part

if he said jeff rapps an he can show any kind of paper work to back that up i would say you got some real trimacs.
