I thought of a really cool set up... Imagine a large Central American themed tank that houses a group of red devils (say 3-4) and a whole bunch of convicts (6-12). There would be plenty of rockwork to allow convicts to hide and to break up the line of sight for RDs... How big of a tank would one need to have this combination work? I would imagine that its probably easier to accomplich without any decor but personaly I just hate the look of barebottom tanks

BTW, as stated in the title, this is purely hypothetical. I doubt that I will have sufficient means of accomidating such set up any time in the near future

Biologically speaking, a 180 would be able to house them, but of course aggression would be another matter. If you were seriously considering it, I wouldn't do anything less than an 8 foot tank, 240g.

:iagree:

I think you have to go pretty big to let each red devil to form its own territory. I would think decor would be a must to reduce site lines and allow for territories. Rock and driftwood could work as well as making a nice natural display.

The tank would be quite a site but it would also take a lot of skill to set-up right.

Some RD's are calmer in larger tanks. Not sure about with their own kind. But I have seen multiple rd/midas in a large tank. I think in the 200g or less range.

A large key with the rd/midas and all of them together is if you can get them all small and let them grow together.

i think a 250 would work, that would be one awesome tank

as cichla said, buy them small and let the grow with eachother
