Hi, i use purigen in one of my external canister filters, i regenerated it and kept in water for about a week checked the PH and it was unchanged so i put it back in the canister after a scheduled cleanup. Just checked the parameters yesterday and my tank PH is arround 6.5 the alkilinity is also reduced, while the water i use for my tanks has a PH of arround 7.5 . The fish are fine no worries there but i am afraid to do a scheduled water change as it might effect the PH rapidly and cause issues in my tank. Also how do i fix this ??? Any ideas??. Removing purigen completely is not an option as i have high bio load and that in itself could be disasterous.

There are much more adequate ways of reducing you bio load other then purigen, more bio media, more filtration and a drip system. Id buy some serious ceramic media that way you house more bb to break down ammonia and waste! And everytime u do a water change u cut waste and nitrate by a significant amount depending on how much water was replaced but if you bio load is that crazy out of control maybe you should consider reducing ur stock or a bigger tank.

Thanks, i have one canister filter doing 1600 l/ hour . Its filled with ceremic rings in top layer followed by ehiem substrate pro in the second and third layer and purigen in last. I recently installed a DIY external canister filter doing 1000l/hour . It is filled with ceremic rings about 3 kgs in weight. With 2 ehiem 2215 filter foams. (they fit exactly as my DIY and 2215 have same 6 inch diameter). I dont think amount of filterearion is a problem only that i have seen before that removing purigen kicks a mini cycle which can and has caused death before so i donot want that again .
