I bought a couple of the Seachem welded filter bags to put Purigen into and wasn't impressed with their convienient resealable locking enclosure (basically, it's a fancy zip tie). I experimented with a vacuum bag sealer that's used for sealing food for long term storage in a freezer. I put in the Purigen into their 180 micron mesh bag and sealed the bag permanently. Their mesh bags are long enough so that if you ever have to remove the media, you can cut the bag close to the seal, rinse out the media and resuse the bag. The bag is roughly 9 1/2" long and 5" wide.

I think they could have found a better way to seal it as well, but not everyone has access to a sealer like you do(I don't). Still, since you can buy smaller quantities in fully sealed bags then I don't see why they can't sell the larger sized bottles in pre-sealed bags as well. I know I'd rather buy them that way. They can still sell loose jars of it for reactors as well. But then again that might cause them to lose out on a bunch of sales of an $8 media bag.

what's the purpose of using the food seal? is the purigen falling out from the seal that comes with "the bag"?
