After soaking Purigen in bleach/water for 24hrs, Seachem's website says to rinse well, and than soak with Prime - 2 Tablespoons per cup..... This is approx 45ml of Prime. Am I understanding this right? That seems to be an OBSCENE amount of Prime considering 5ml of it treats 50g of tap water. Obviously after a very thorough wash there is still bleach residue so I understand some excess Prime being needed, but does it really need THAT much?

To go a bit further: Even if you only soaked the Purigen in a 1g container, you would need to use 32 TBSPs, or 2 cups of straight Prime.... This cannot possibly be the case.

In all fairness, they're recommending you soak it in a cup. Their directions are assuming you only have one of their bags filled with it. So in essence you would only need 2 cups of water to 2 cups of bleach and then 2 capfuls of prime to treat after.

Their website say 2 TBSP's per cup. I only do have one of their bags of it. 1 capful of Prime is 5ml, 1 TBSP is ~15ml. Is their site just not correct or am I missing something here?

According to Seachem, 1 L of purigen will treat a 1,000 gallon tank. 1 L of purigen should easily fit in a 3/4 gallon jug with a 50/50 mixture of 1 L of water and 1 L of prime, so the prime portion would need to be ~16 tbs.

That's roughly $4 every 6 months if you buy Prime in the 4 L size. Obviously owners with smaller tanks might not buy in bulk, but then again, they would have a lot less purigen.

I think they are doubling or tripling the amount needed to make sure that people don't lose their fish, but I guess one could save a dollar or two by removing the safety margin.

Purigen was designed to be used with Prime; other dechlorinators won't work.
I've cleaned/recharged my purigen a few times. I always only use 3 cap fulls of prime in about a half gallon of water after the bleach soak. I just let it soak overnight. And then I let the purigen air dry. Never had a problem.
