I recharged my purigen pack but it stinks. It doesn't smell like chlorine maybe more like a fishy smell.

I soaked 1:1 bleach and water ratio for 24 hours then rinsed well and soaked in 4 cups of water and 8 teaspoons for PRIME. I let it sit for about 24 hours. When I took it out of the water that's when I noticed the smell.

Is this the PRIME i'm smelling? I did some research and found that PRIME does stink. I'm at work right now but will compare the smell tonight.

Thank you.

I believe PRIME is essentially the same product as AmQuel+ which is what I use. If thats the case then yes you will notice a rotten eggs smell. Fills up the room for a few days if you spill it. Plus 8 tsp is probably enough to treat approx 80 gals.

Research? Like just opening the bottle?

I thought purigen had a funny smell right out of the box.

That being said, it does also smell funny after being recharged...dont worry I have been through what is probably the same thing twice and no problems, great recharge. If you did smell chlorine I would be worried, but seeing as how you dont and only aquarium safe products have been used on it, its probably a-okay. One thing to consider is if you ever used slime coat products in the aquarium the media is from, it might have ruined the media...other than that I dont have any ideas what else could be wrong.

your smelling the Prime. 8 tsp for 4 cups of water is way way way to much. also did you atleast have a airstone in the container you used for recharging your Purigen? I use a very small China made hob and the current helps clean the purigen 100% better than letting it sit in a container with no current.
