Sorry this question is not polypterus related but it is kind of

Last night I did good cleaning of my bichir tank. Also cleaned the external canister. Introduced purigen during this. First time using purigen. I have noticed water has milky shade to it . is this becteria bloom or this is magic happening cuz of purigen ?

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Same here. What did you clean the canister with tap or tank water ? Can you test your water for nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia?

Purigen should hve to opposite affect on your water

do you have any other bio filtration going on? HoB? not sure if this applies but never a good ideal to replace all your bio media at once. least case is a mini cycle, worst is a full cycle. and as jaws asked. how did you clean things up?

Purigen is a new type of activated carbon so it should go to carbon chamber or carbon tray (chemical chamber/tray), you can't replace bio media with purigen, If you clean your filter with tap water...oh, well! Then you will have to cycle your tank again.

If u have 2 filters this is what I do ... I clean the filters from one with tap water but leave the sponge things alone .... Don't touch the other filter at all .... Next time around clean the filter tht was untouched the next time around clean the little sponge things ..... This gives everything to get goin again .... And doesn't really do much to the tanks cycle as u will always have atleast 2 things with good bacteria goin

i agree, no reason at all to clean with tap water, run the siphon into a 5g bucket, let the bucket keep overflowing and rinse your sponge out, will come out just as clean and not hurt the Bactria on it.
