Hey guys< i just joined MFK, but have been using this site for info.
i picked up a "Purple Flame Flowerhorn" the otherday at my LFS. Im new to the game and never heard of a purple flame FH, he is currently 2' including tail 1.5 without, ive been feeding him on live feeders, bloodworm and flake foods. he prefers the chase of the feeders but also just likes to kill them lol. i have in a 2ft tank with a 2.5" front, and a 3' pictus, they all seem to get along really well and follow the pictus around the tank, ive neva heard of a purple flame and was just wondering if anyone can give me any info/pics of these hectic looking fish.

cheers, PumbA

p.s,
he had no colour to him at the LFS, but now is green with bars and blotches, purple-ish fins and red belly, he also has a light blue tinge to his anal fin, pectral fins and tail.

Welcome to MFK. You should probably repost this in the hybrid section where all the FH fans hang out more and I'm sure you'll get more responses.

Welcome to MFK.

As stated, this would be much better off in the Hybrids section as Flowerhorns are an artificially manufactured species and many people (including myself) in this section don't like them :p

Be aware that you are going to need a much bigger tank for him, too.

i don't mind hybrids i'm not sure why other people don't sorry to pollute your thread just felt it needed to be said

flower horns get pretty big 14''-15'' so you'll need a much bigger tank when it gets bigger they also are usually very aggressive and will most likely kill or beat the crap out of your front they aren't aggressive at all and the pictus dependsing on the species will be killed or eaten if you talking pimelodus pictus then it will for sure be killed or eaten so i'd work on a bigger tank

feeders aren't good food they don't have much nutrition to the and can carry parasites so its best to work on getting it to eat other foods flakes and blood worms are good but it will take alot of them to feed it when it gets bigger so i would try to get it to eat

pellets
krill
shrimp
worms
fish fillets ( just no live feeders unless you breed or keep them your self to make sure they don't have parasites )
flakes
crayfish/crawdads make great treats

i bred the feeders ( rosey barbs ) i also feed him on blood worms and flakes, yea i have a 5ft being preped atm for him, i mainly feed him on blood worms. And FSM, i ment 3 inch pictus, and using that avatar with the words metallica in it does make u cool lol!
