I accidentally created these males when I crossed some tequila sunrise males with some tiger/mutt females. While these are mutts, I find this pattern and the appearance of actual purple to be tantalizing. I am half-inspired to do a little back-crossing and stabilize this lineage. Is it worth it? Are these as amazing as I think they are? The tail shape needs a bit of focus. I think perfectly round would be best. But the coloration is what has me thinking. Any feedback?

I'm hopeful about stability of this pattern because these two males are so similar. I'd have expected more stray traits from such a haphazard effort.

Nice fish. Makes me want to breed guppies too lol.

I don't really think it's worth it because guppies are not going to make you much and there are so many varieties already I doubt this will make much of a difference

You are in the wrong forum for guppies...Folks here thinks guppies = healthy but expensive alternatives to feeder goldfish ;)

Pretty fish BTW, I think it might sell well if you manage to get them to breed true.

All depends on consistancy and purity. With polluted bloodlines like this you are never sure what the offspring will look like. Id say give it a try, stunning colors for feeders...j/k

I say go for it. They'd be real nice if you could work them into a strain.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'll have to grab some old 10g tanks and move the females out. All 3 are gravid! Two of the females are sibling, but look unrelated, while a third female bears shadows of the same coloration as the males. Pretty sure she's the seed of hope, but since the other two females are carrying genetic material only from the two males, they also provide a little more genetic diversity for later outcrossing. I'm not going nuts on getting to 100% genetic purity. Inbreeding side effects like weak immunity and bent backs tick me off. 80 to 90 percent and I'll be happy calling it a strain. I'll update with fry pics eventually.

Another spoke in this wheel is my wild guppy population. Many individuals sport very vivid purple patches, and I'm somewhat tempted to throw that into the mix as well. But not yet. We'll see what happens with these first fry drops.

pretty! i would be interested in some if you can do it! loving the round tail as well.

(btw the paradise fish you gave me are monsters!!!!^_^.ty so much again)
