So I have a 1.5" firemouth in a 10 gallon right now hoping to grow him to about 2.5 or 3" before he goes in to the 45 and I move some other fish to a 20, and was wondering if a pair of cory cats would be pushing the limits of the small tank. The firemouth seems to be very calm as I put a neon tetra in his tank just to see what would happen and he completely ignored it, so what do you guys think? Would the corys be okay or should i just completely hold off until he's grown to an appropriate size and transfered?

Are you asking if you can put the Cory cats with the fire mouth in the 10 gal? how big are the cats?

yeah basically, and i don't have the cats yet if i got em they'd be about 1" long tops

Cory cats are awesome community fish and do best in groups of six I'd be more worried bout your fire mouth picking on them but he's small so it shouldn't be a problem for a while if you move the fire mouth out when he's a bit bigger like you plan I'd say go for it :D

glad to have a positive opinion on this :P - anybody see this being an issue?

Not knowing your aggressiveness of you firemouth, I would say go for it. But get a more outgoing type of cory.

I just picked up a couple of smaller (1/2" maybe) spotted corys and they went to the top to feed at times. I lost one but I was warned that the corys at this shop where not in the best conditions, the reason I put them in with my other corys in a planted tank. I have found the emerald were good and playful, but they might outgrow the 10 gallon.

Yeah get the cories. I have 2 juli and 1 albino, they are pretty active and come to the top to feed.

sweet, i definitely will - and then when the firemouth is big enough to go in the big tank im replacing the 10 gal with a 20 gal, the cories will go to that one along with the opaline gourami from the bigger tank, dont think stocking will be much of a problem then

An emaeld will not outgrow a 10 gallon. You could put 3 0r 4 cories in that 10 with the firemouth without any issues. They only max out around 2 inches.
