hello all ornate lovers, I've kept these guys before but do to some unfor seen injures to myself. i had to get rid of them. I'm better now after 4 major back surgies and able to keep larger tank clean on my own so. I'm having a buddie of mine build me a 275g all glass bow front tank. Yes he's build sevral bow front over 250g before a couple for Texas State aqrium in Corpus Christie. So with that said { sorry I had some jerk offs on another site tell me it couldn't be done. So i wanted to get that out of the way. LOL} Anyway it's a full year out before it's ready. So i have a couple of question the main fish for this tank is going to be Jagurs a trio of them maybe two prs havn't desided. So til the there full time tank is ready. I was going to grow them out in a 75g tank.
I'm wondering if I could keep Polypterus senegalus ornates in with them? at least for the growing up part. I'd love to keep them togeather but not to sure on the water needs of both right now. Still doing research on the jagurs. I've never kept them before but have always wanted to. Anyway I'm going to house them in the 75g for at least 3 to 4 mouths maybe longer depiding on how big they get before I need to move them to larger tank. I have a 100g not set-up but can set it up if need be { depending on size } I'm still not at 100% health wise or back wise. LOl So if i can get away with housing them in a 75g for the frist 6 to 8 months that'd be great. So my question are s fellows.

1. Would the Polypterus senegalus { ornates x 4} beable to be housed with jagurs?
2. Would the jagurs at 1.5'' to 2'' beable to stay in a 75g with the Polypterus senegalus?
3. Would they all beable to stay for at least 5 to 6m in the 75g? { I know alot will depend on size.}
4. If not would a 55g be ok for the Polypterus senegalus to stay in?

Thanks for all in-put before hand.

IME cichlids like Jags tend to be aggressive to other cichlids, but not to fishes that are quite different than them.(pleco's, catfish and bichers)
I currently have a 12 " Jag in with 3 bichers and a pair of catfish. The jag exhibits absolutly no aggression to any of them. A potential problem would be if you have a pair of Jags, breeding behaviour and all bets are off.
Here is a year old photo of some of the gang.LOL the ornate is now the largest of the bunch.

Sweet set up. Thanks i didn't thnk there would be any trouble, I just wanted to make sure. you know? better safe then sorry in my opion. LOL I was hoping there wouldn't be cause i just knew that would make for a sweet set-up. How long do you thank it would take for them to out grow a 75g? I'm thanking about 5 to 6 months then I'd have to be moing them to a larger tank. My large tank is right t 11m before completion and i was hoping I wouldn't have to up grade them til then . There's going to be just the 3trio of jags and the ornate in the 75g. maybe a scerlet pleco. So they'd have lots of room to grow for awhile.

I would have to disagree in my experience, my jag has destoyed all its tank mates. All the fish were generally the same size & the jag still killed an oscar, marbled pim catfish, & destroyed my orange pike which I had to move. I would monitor the situation, as all temperments can very!

We have a Delhezi (about 7 inches) and a 5 inch Managuense in a tank together at work (lfs) Certainly not normal but it is a ten with three different hides of rock and they leave each other alone.....biggest deal....making sure there is enough food for the Delhezi. The Managuense is growing and eating and we have to feed often and alot to be sure the poor polypterus gets some.
