I foudn some coral on the beach in the dominican republic
my friend says its good to put inmy shellie tank because it raises ph and adds calcium.
is thistrue?
also i just broke it up into smaller pieces.. shoudl i boil it first?

im pretty sure that it does all those things and yes, you should boil it first

ok.. would boiling it ruin any benefit from it?

yea think of it as being limestone...which it would of become millions of years later anyways.

its excellent for rift lake cichlids

ok.. thanks

I'm using coral in one of my tang tanks to buffer the water. Works great. Just boil. No bleaching necessary. :)

Crushed oyster shells also work well. Just place them in the filter.
