I have a well established 10 gallon tank of 1 year now. The little 10 gallon filter is horrible though and I am upgrading tanks at the end of this year, so I bought an Aqueon 30-45 gallon filter. I recently just put it on my 10 gallon and other than doing water changes to keep my fish from dying, is there anyother tips? thanks

You should have allowed both filters to run for a month or 2 before removing the established filter. That way the new one has time to colonate biological bacteria and be able to perform as a bio filter like the old one was.

I am guessing you did not do this. So the only thing you can do is keep checking your ammonia and nitrite levels and at anytime you get a reading of over .25ppm of etheir one do a water change.

You could also add a bio booster such as safe start by aqua safe to the tank to add the needed bio bacteria if you are having ammonia problems.

I THINK YOU WILL BE ALRIGHT!!! AS LONG AS YOU DONT CHANGE ALL THE WATER AND PUT A NEW FILTER AT THE SAME TIME. UP DATING THE FILTER IS LIKE CHANGING YOUR YOUR FILTER EVERY MONTH. NO BIG DEAL. LIKE I SAID " DONT CHAGE THE FILTER AND THE WATER AT THE SAME TIME"

alright thanks. yea well i couldnt run them both at the same time because there isnt enough room on the top of my tank. This Aqueon 30 is super powerful, i think as along as I do daily water changes roughly 15% i will be fine.

If there is anyway to move some of the media from the old filter to the new filter, it will help it the new filter grow the BB
