i curently have a 300 (96"x24"x30") set up.i have another 300( 74"x28"x36") sitting in my garage.currently im using a 44 gal garbage can as a filter.what im looking to use to bring the second 300 on line is a 300 gal stock tank and filter both tanks with this.in a system of this size whats the best way to heat it? im planning on insulating all 3 tanks.(wife is *****in about my energy consumtion)

I have a 220, 75 and 300 rubbermaid on the same system. I've found that it is best to keep the room warm... like 73ish. You will get a couple degrees out of things like pumps and lights (especially compact fluorescents). I see that you are in ND. Do you use a wood stove?

no i will never live in a house with a wood burner again:).i hauled wood from the time i was 6 to 19.my tanks are in the basement that is not insulated or really heated.there is only 74" from floo to celing.i was thinking about framing in a room just to better keep heat in. i also get some water on the floor from time to time:)

Id half finish the basement. Throw some drywall up with insulation. Put down a nice carpet to keep the floor warm and you would be good. That cold cement and non insulated wall are what is getting yah. You dont have to go and paint and decorate or anything just bare basics of the room that your tanks are in.

some springs the basment leaks.depending on how the snow melts so ill skip the carpet.could always do a rug.have also been thinking of using the 2" foam insulation on the outside walls.this room would one vent thats in the basement.

Wrapping the non-viewing sides of the tanks and the top with as much insulation as possible will prevent heat loss from the tanks themselves, and if you are going to build a small fish room than heating the room instead of the tanks will probably be cheaper unless you build yourself a heat exchanger setup.
