i had a huge oscar a medium turquoise jewel and a lrge convict a greshaki and a medium convict in a bowfront.
i had noticed the big conv was fighting the smaller 1 and it was very scared n stayed hidden .
i sold the jewel the other day and yesterday i sold the ship a treasure chest and skeleton and a big plant out of the tank ater the people left i noticed the big convict was guarding many fry hmmm now im sure the other convict wasnt the mate as its scared to death of the big 1 and of course the oscar isnt ( i guess) and i presume not the greshaki i guess the convict and the jewel? they are only 2 that stayed on that side of tank behind the plant for a long time now the other 3 were always on the right side by the ship . :nilly:

The aggression was probably breeding behavior. The smaller probably decided it was ready.

BTW, these are CA/SA, not rift lake cichlids. Wrong section.

no what i meant was they jewel convict babies the jewel and big conv stayed on left side tank always the oscar grehakie and little conv stayed on right side of tank always and there was no agression towards the jewel from the definate dad of the fry

If it is fry from the convict and you had two convicts in the tank and one was bigger one and one was smaller, they are convict fry. I doubt that convicts would breed with african cichlids. Jewel cichlid are also not rift lake cichlids, river cichlids.

If the other one was not on the same side, it is not uncommon for them to still breed. The males makes the nest site, then the female would have spawn there. Both parents will guard fry, so the female may have been chased off by the male. I again 99.9999999999% sure that jewel and convict would not breed.

Since we know one parent we are moving this to CA/SA for more input
