I have a 180g non-drilled tank. I am considering moving to a sump and am weighing my options. I was looking at the lifereef overflow as it is considered the best (I know very expensive) but then saw a post of youtube video with a DYI PVC overflow that looked easy enough.

I am horrible at DYI so I am leaning towards lifereef. Ultimately, I care a lot more about reliability. which is more reliable and safer? I am paranoid about leaks/something going wrong.

Currently I am running 3 AC110s on my 180g. Tried canisters and was not a fan. AC110s are very convenient. This would be so I could more convenience, and get more stuff out of the display tank.

I know that some have used them just fine but mine ended up breaking the siphon and water overflowed all over the floor.

If your not confident in your DIY abilities then I would get a lifereef or an eshopps HOB overflow. If I ever have a need for a HOB overflow again then I will be going with one of those.

Instead, I am going to drill my new tank for a very reliable overflow.

the eshopps overflow are very good. The diy overflows I find more unsightly. I would go with the eshopps personally

I have read a ton of negative things about eshopps overflows and poor craftmenship. The only overflow I have read amazing things about and never anything negative is lifereef. If I go with a non-DYI it would be them. I am paranoid about dealing with leaking and other issues.
