i saw a picture and the dimensions for a pvc overflow designed to fit a standard 55gal i am gonna make one for my bow front 29 gallon should i use the same size pipe and same length pieces or do i need to make it alot smaller

I would make it the same as used for the 55gal
The last thing you want is for it to be too small

My first thoughts were, don`t do it.
29g is pretty small for needing, or setting up a sump.
I can understand you wanting to add to your water volume.
I can also understand someone wanting to get a “handle” on overflows/sumps for when they get a big tank, 90g and above.
That said, if you want to do this you were on the right track in thinking about scaling the overflow pipe down.
Bad things can happen pretty fast when you play with moving water around.
1/2in pipe would be the largest I.D. I would even consider for this idea of yours.
