Well drilling isnt an option and i cant find an overflow box that has a bigger gap then 3 inches since the acrylic tank i got from another member has a 3.25 inch trim due to eurobracing. So i guess my best bet is 2 pvc overflows.......

Tank is a 180...8x2x18....pump is a laguna max flo 2400 but with the 4-5 foot head height im guessing ill get around 1800gph...

Im thinking 2....1.5 inch pvc overflows.....any thoughts?

i made the one in the video above I am using 2 1.5 inch overflows and it can more then handle the flow

I asked about that pvc overflow and various folks recommended against it, maybe more because I'm not handy. Lifereef can make overflow for eurobracing but they're expensive.

U could make a pvc overflow.....u dont have to be handy to make one of these....as long as u get the measurements right its easy to make and glue

I might give it a try still. With the aimara growing not sure how long 3 AC110s will last, not to mention it would be nice to have the extra water volume.

You are doing this for a 180 and my tank is also a 180, except 6x2x2. How come you are doing two over flows instead of just 1? I am guessing you are doing a single return?

2 to keep up with the heavy return rate and just in case one fails....the only reason why im even considering making pvc overflows is bc the tank i have is acrylic and the euro bracing around the outside is too thick to add an overflow box.

If i were you i would just order an overflow box for ur 180.....no need to mess with diy pvc overflows

3 ac110s should have plenty of bio media to support an aimara

Yup. My biggest issue I know I need to upgrade in 2 years so whatever I buy will just get resold which means wasted. I think ultimately, I will do is try and get the 3 AC110s to last as long as they can. If I start having ammonia/ issues I will then need to decide what to do, but a sponge filter would probably be the best avenue at that point.

My biggest issue is I hate the clutter. I want to get rid of the heaters, HOB that to me are unsightly, plus the HOB are maxed on bio media so I have a filter sock hanging in the tank with peat.

It will cost me $500 to go with lifereef overflow plus pump and everything else needed. Hefty price tag to be a temp solution due to clutter. Should have bought a drilled tank at the time.

If drilling was an option, sounds like it isn't for one of you, you could create internal overflow. The eurobrace wont be an issue and all drains could be hidden.
