I'm considering make a pair of overflows to go with the sump I'm getting. Tank is a 150 tall 48x24x30 and I want to know what size to make them or if the HOB's are any good. I can get a complete sump, overflow, quiet one 400HH, all hoses for ~600 which would give me ~5 times turnover or I can get just the Sump build my overflows and buy a Mag Drive 2400 ~550. I would prefer to use PVC to connect everything anyways. Now what size of PVC overflows would be most effecient? I stopped by menards and looked at the PVC and 1.25 and 1.5" PVC looks kind of large anyone have picks of theirs in the tank? Also I would hook both of them together at the tee then have a tee in the middle to go down to my sump where it would get divided into 2 1" lines to the sump as that is what the sump has going into it. Sump will be a CPR CR3000. Pump will be external as it is already drilled for the bulkhead out. Head will be between 4.5-5'. what does everyone think? and thanks in advance.

I would go with 2 1" DIY overflows and shoot for 3x turnover with 10g of bioballs or equivalent bio media.

Thanks for the quick reply. Tank will be housing 2 P-Bass, 1 Mono and 1 Intermedia eventually jsut the 1 intermedia. Sump contains 2 cu. ft. of Bio Bail. With head height and plumbing I should be around the 3-4x turnover with the quiet one 4000HH. Sump will be a CPR CR3000 as it is 2 pieces and just barely will fit under my stand. Now when I connect the 2 overflows together can I just use 1" or do I need to go up a size to move the water? Thinking about just getting the kit and building the overflows once I have a little more time to figure it all out. I also need to put my UV inline also.

When you tie the 2 together you'll need to make it larger. I would try to use either flexible or 45 degree fittings to reduce flow loss. If you tie the 2 overflows together with a 1"x1"x2" "Y" I think it would work very well. I've never tied two together, but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Thanks answered my questions, Ordered my sump as a kit so I can get it up right away then I will spend some time doing my DIY PVC overflow and stuff.
