Not sure if this is the right place for this question but since it involves my brack fish thought i'd try here....

Wanting to make a pvc hideout for my eels that circles the aquarium bottom, or atleast goes from one end to the other, preferably under the substrate. Question is, will it stay clean enough on the inside that it won't effect my nitrates to bad without having to take it out during water changes to rinse it out. I.E. poo, any food that finds its way in there, etc.....

Also does anybody know where i can find clear pvc pipe and generaly how much it costs.

Thanks much for all and any help

I'm going to move this to the DIY forum. In the meantime, check out aquaticeco.com. They carry an assortment of transparent PVC pipe and couplings.
I'd suggest drilling holes along the length of the pipe in a size smaller than the particles of your substrate. The holes will allow the tunnel system to breath without filling up with the substrate.

the pvc will be fine with water ciculation, either run a slow powerhead through or come up with a way that the water doesnt just sit in the pvc, otherwise you can get clear pvc pipe its not that expensive, either contact a pool filter company or a fiberglass company and they should be able to help.
