Just a crazy idea that popped into my head. I'm happy with my Biomax. lol.

What if you took a length of 1/2" or 1" PVC piping, scratched the crap out of the outside as well as the inside with 60-80 grit sandpaper, then cut the pieces into 1/4"-1/2" rings.

If you used PVC pipe cutters this wouldn't take very long.

Would this work as biomedia? What about surface area? substantial enough?

Just curious.

Better yet if you stuck it on a lathe you could make this:

But as for your idea it would probably work but not sure if it would have the same surface area as the rings.

Hmm there's something that almost looks like biobale.

Probably because that's what it is.

It will work, if you had access to a cement mixer, put the rings in there with a couple shovels of sand and let run, check progress and stop while there is still some PVC left ;).

Or you could use lava rock, way more surface area and your done.

Smash up some Bricks for some serouis diy bio media its just like cheap carbon

Don't know if that would be wise. People add oxides and such to bricks to alter their colour (I think...)
