hi all here is an idea for a sump for my 200 gallon tank i will be building once i get back into my house. It will be made from 4 inch pvc. the first chamber is a water trap so that the drain lines will enter the sump underwater to prevent splashing. this will connect to the second chamber that will have a filter sock in it. this chamber will spill onto a drip tray over bio-balls or pot scrubbies what do you think of it. i may add a second sock or a sock within a sock but we will see.

the main reason for the two chambers is so that i don't have to reach all the way under the tank to change the filter socks

Might work but idk how you are holding or changing the socks, make sure it's easy you will be doing it a lot

the socks i will be buying will sit on top of a 4 inch pipe so i will just set them into the 4 inch tee and it will sit on top of the pipe that is glued into the tee.i may have to build a lip on the pipe but it should be rather easy to do

i am thinking of using 100 micron 14 inch long bags with a 4 3/32 ring on top made from felt. i am also thinking of putting a bypass hole at the top so that if the bag clogs the water will bypass back into the sump and make a loud splashing noise to alert me of the problem

another thought i had was to add a true "Y" splitter and run two bag canisters. in thearory this should make my bags last twice as long. but i will probobly be doing maintenance once a week on this tank
