PVC -vs- Polypropylene

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes poly pro is the most commonly used plastic in the world. That is what all your plastic drinking cups are made from and any filter unit you may have like a HOB or canister, the filters cases are made from it as well. And poly filter floss is poly pro as well.

Go HDPE - it is black and it is chemically stable

I am making caves for plecos out of HDPE pipes

I'm not aware of any plastic that is unstable in water.

Anyone got experience bonding/sealing Polypropylene?

Most sealant products mention they're not suitable and those that are I don't have any immersion or fish toxicity info. for (awaiting to hear back from 3M and Selleys).

Yeah, 3M got back to me saying they don't have a suitable sealant, but do have a glue (Scotch-Weld DP-8010) that needs <1mm contact patch to make a strong bond, but I think I'd need the flexibility a sealant provides for the application I was looking it.

Not to worry I can adapt. ;)

im looking for black pvc... but only in Polypropylene? are they fish safe?

They make a black PEX (cross-linked Polyethylene) that uses exterior (full-flow) heat bonded fittings.

Polypropylene is used all the time in irrigation, typically it is mechanically fastened.
