What are the advantages and disadvantages to using pvc or vinyl for your plumping?
Thanks

I have used both, but I prefer PVC, at less than half the cost, and once glued or screwed together, very solid. And if you place unions at the proper junctions, and proper distances, the maintenance of brushing out pipes is easy. Appropriate sized valves are readily accessible and also inexpensive at most hardware stores that fit, and the pipes can be reduced with availble pieces to standard sizes.
And because of the easy availability, when things get old and crusty, you can hack it off and replace and glue it on in moments with something available down the street at minimal cost.
I agree that PVC is not as nice to look at, but it can easily be hidden, and because it is rigid will stand where it placed.
I don't like the need for hose clamps on vinyl that rust, or worse too easily come loose.

I really like flex PVC. You glue it with PVC solvent just like regular PVC. I still put unions to make it easy for replacement. There is colored PVC pipe or you can paint with krylon fusion, both those look really nice to me. I don't like vinyl anymore and it's not used on my systems at this time. I prefer to not have any hose clamps or fitting that come loose easily and IME vinyl hose can kink pretty easily compared to flex PVC. But lots of people use both so it's not a huge deal.
