During this past week we've had a large amount of snowfall and there isnt any public transport really and we cant get our car off the street, and weve got about 3/4 little crickets left and some fruitflies which are in my crested enclosure and im worried that i wont be able to get anymore live food for the crested geckos untill the weather improves. What i wanted to ask would be if they could eat some of my crested geckos forumula food its made by komodo but im not sure if they'd recognise it as food.

Also any other reccomendations? Ive been told that adults can have upto size 4 crickets is this true? As i could use some of the size 3 crickets which i have for my crested gecko.

Thanks guys!

Whatever you have that is moving will work in a pinch for the Cresties. As long as they aren't teeny tiny they will be fine with larger food items. I would hang on to any insects for your Pygmy's and feed the Geckos their diet. You are correct that the chameleons won't recognize it as food. As long as your critters are plump and hydrated they will be fine without food for a 2-3 days. Don't panic and good luck!

Thanks i wasnt too worried about the crested as he has a formula food which says on it that he doesnt need any live food with it as his diet but i do supplement his diet with crickets aswell, i was mostly worried about the pygmys mostly, but still unsure if i could feed them larger size 3 crickets though? The worrying thing is that the news papers and news channels are saying the snow could be bad for another couple of weeks :/.

I would try to find people locally that may breed their insects and could share a few. You should really think about the possibility of breeding your own bugs.

Im gonna look into starting my own fruitfly cultures at some point i think.
Go for a cricket culture as well, they can be PITA but if warmed they breed and grow very fast which is what you want to happen.

They will not eat the CGD.

And from personal experience Fruit flies will not sustain them for a longer period of time.

Have you thought of roaches? Much easier to breed than crickets and less smelly.

Being that pygmies are tiny they do not take long to lose weight at all, I would definately reccomend breeding some of your own feeders.

My college have a lot of cockroach and have loads of them, may see if they'll let me have a few to breed for feeder purposes and ive managed to put a couple of the smaller size 3 crickets in for them and theyve been hunting and i cant find the crickets now, ive moved there cage today and had them out for a health check and they seem fine imo.

I second the roach idea. I bred lateralis for a while, and loved them. Super easy to care for, and they don't stink or make noise like crickets. I fed mine a bit of fish food flake mixed in with premade roach diet, and it was like miracle grow for them.
