Pygmy puffer diet?

Before I get some, I was wondering if these foods will be OK?


-frozen bloodworms
-market shrimp
-market tilapia
-earthworms
-crickets
-convict cichlid fry


What do you think? I've read this species rarely eats dried foods.

Also, are snails absolutely necessary?

Snails are the primary food for this species. And, they're needed to keep tooth overgrowth in check. A culture of ramshorn snails would be ideal for the pea puffer. Pond snails can be raised in an outdoor kiddie pool and fed singly to ensure no umwanted breeding in the tank leaving jelly masses everywhere. You an also seed the tank with a small species of Gammarus shrimp.
Other diet items are bloodworms, chopped mussel, live brine shrimp, fairy shrimp, daphnia magna, mosquito larvae, etc.
