New topic,

So my shoal of nattereri are getting established in their tank now after about a month or so, give or take.. When they first came, they were light in color and bellies were more white than red... Now, after getting more comfortable especially eating an increased amount of food, their colors are changing...The red on their bellies are becoming brighter which is eliminating all the white present before. Also, they are becoming REALLY dark. Just to paint a picture, the top half is BLACK BLACK with the silver shiny dots, and blood red bellies. I'm guessing its because they are getting used to their tank therefore the colors are beginning to come back. I feed them cod fillets, market shrimp, occasional feeders, but no pellets yet because I accidentally ordered the wrong size.... Anyways, can you guys share your exp/thoughts on it? Should be for the better imo right? Let me know, thanks in advance!

my experience.....hmm, they'll change colors based on your substrate, background, diet as well as when they age or go into breeding behaviors. it's kinda cool to watch.

if i remember your tank right you don't have a background?

my acrylic has the typical blue blackground, black sand, extremely dimmed lights. They are really dark with red bellies now. imo it looks really nice! Before, they were more silver with black spots. As you know, they are only 3-4" so are juvies still..

And they their under bellies were white before but now its totally gone and finally the red is settling in... Maybe its because they are less stressed now and getting used me, the lights, and all the movements. They scatter less when I approach the tank to throw in their meals.

Like Baller said too many factors contribute their red bellys and overall color. Getting really pale can be a sign of stress, sounds like their just settling in, not to mention eating a relatively healthy diet minus the koi.

Mine are looking all black with pale red bellies so I'm starting to think their getting ready to breed. I see them dancing and wiggling together every now and then. Just found a 125 for 300$ too, might have to get it tomorrow.

Pygos look the best imo at 4-5". They usually lose the juvie spots by then and have nice bright color. Its probably the substrate color and their age thats making them look like this.

Wow it's going to suck when they lose their spots.... Atleast it makes up with better and sharper colors right ? Also it could be that they are flashin their colors more due to marking their territories. They been fighting a lot but not seriously for territory. It's fun to watch IMO lol

I think they look best with out spots and they still have their red. As they get older the lose it, usually.

Heres mine when they were starting to lose their spots.

I like every step of their growth, their always beautifully colored imo. Love the shiny silver at night reflecting the lite, love the gun metal colors as they get bigger, love the way their fins highlight their body. Love everything about rbp.

Wow mike your red bellies are/were really nice.. Man you really have a super legit collection! My shoal's spots are barely visible and the red on the fins are really bright. I like how they aren't skittish at all/not very much. Any recent videos ?
