I love the python, but the pump breaks really easy right above where the twist part is to block the flow so you can fill the tank.

Anyone have this problem?

Im on my 3rd one and want to know if there are any others out there that are stronger.. The Lee version maybe?

Stop wrenching the piss out of it man :p it's only plastic!

Just go to a bed store and buy the piece for a waterbed fill kit. I don't know what you are doing to it. I have never had that kind of problem. I have a Lee also, no difference.

I dont know what I am doing either but other people are having the same problem according to the reviews n marinedepot.com.

of course after the first time I did it I was more careful.. I mean it did take a few months to break, but that is after doing weekly water changes. Ohh well..

Try out the new Aqueon unit. It is cheaper, but I'm not so sure of the quality. Let us know if you do get it.

Mine tend to break on the stem beneath the thread (where you hook it to the faucet) I've solved that with putting a quick disconnect to it.

I've heard that Wal-Mart sells the pump as a waterbed pump and they are much cheaper?? Just stock up. It's sounding like your supply came from a bad batch? Did you get them all from the same place?

I just replaced the pump on mine, it was 5 years old

The green python connections tend to get brittle over time and break fairly easily. I go through one every few months at work because employees are hard on it. I have gone through quite a few at my house too..

I purchased the new Aqueon unit, because I wrote one off at work and -seemed- to like it. It's great if you have pressure issues with your tap, but I didn't like the fact that it seemed to get clogged easier when syphoning larger particles. However, it seemed like a much sturdier piece of equipment, but I still managed to break it somehow.

ANYWAYS

Tip of the year right here..

I took the extra parts from my python drainer, and the extra parts from my aqueon drainer.. and COMBINED THEM! Its this funky green/gray piece, that is extra durable, and locked together tight enough to the point where the piece that usually breaks is well secure.. It syphons well, seems to have more suction, and handles those large particles okay. (might take a few in/out blasts to break up particles, but with added pressure this is easier.)

You found something that clogs easier than a python!? holy crap. That's my #1 complaint about the python setup. tiny plant pieces, driftwood slivers, even uneaten cricket carcasses clog the stupid thing.

I have an 11 + year old Python that has never broken. I do water changes every other day on several tanks. Maybe they cut corners on the newer stock?
