Has anyone used one of these. Do you just put the prime in your tank before you fill your tank back up with the python?

No more buckets! Lol they work well but are a little slow for bigger tanks. They work better the lower your faucet is to the tank. If you have a bathtub on the same floor even better. I end up wasting a little too much water trying to speed it up a bit. Once the suction is started you can turn the water off and it’ll empty the tank. Also while you’re vacuuming you’ll want to have the faucet on to get max suction. When refilling dump the prime in just before starting. If a really big tank try dosing the prime out over the refill to avoid o2 depletion.

I don't hook the hose up to my faucet while draining, I just run it straight to the drain on the floor of my shower. Get good suction that way. Then I just hook it up to the sink to fill. I put the prime in when I first start filling and a little more at the end. Been doing it this way for years and years, no problems here.

I run my regular suction hose right out my window into my garden. I purposely placed my bigger tanks by windows for this reason. Then I hook my python up to refill. I dose my prime before filling.

It's the bees knees! I have both an aqueon and a python and the python is much better made. Hefting buckets may be good exercise but I don't recommend it at all, dose for the entire tank volume with water conditioner and just fill it back up. I have multiple tanks so usually I use a vinyl hose from a hardware store draining one tank out a window and the python filling another. I would be lost without it.

Python is a must. I can’t imagine doing water changes without it. Like everyone else said start suction vacuum then fill while adding prime at the beginning and at the end half dose each time.

Is python really needed? I just use a normal hose, insert 1 end into the water, suck the other end and water will start flowing out. Then you can use the end in the water to do vaccumming

Hello; Wasted water is a thing to consider. My understanding is that to create enough initial suction to get a siphon started you run a considerable volume of tap water down the drain. I get that it makes moving the water less physical so if wasting water is not a concern then go for it.

suck the other end and water will start flowing out.
Hello; Did it that way for many years and got a mouthful of tank water from time to time. last years I have started a siphon another way. I submerge most of the hose/tubing in the water and let it fill up. Place a thumb over an end. Move that thumb out of the tank and into a bucket and let gravity start the siphon.

There are also some hand pumps that will start a siphon but I have not used them on my tanks.
