python water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe if you ran it out the window it would run faster. I use a python on my tank on the second floor and hang it out the window and it drains so fast its not even funny. I go out side to get it to siphon and have to hurry back up stairs to vac the sand before it take out a ton of water.

Thats a big waste of water though thats why I don't do it like that! Gravity can really speed up water flow. I would suggest trying it that way and trying the method TTTT suggested and see which one you like better.

The easiest thing to do is to only use the Python to ADD water, not remove it. You can get a length of wide diameter hose to manually drain your tank in a snap. A 1.5" or 2" hose really moves the water. Just submerge an extra foot or so in your tank and when you remove it the siphon starts.

Alternatively, you can use a pump or powerhead specifically to pump out water. Orrrrr, if you use canister filtration, you can tee off a line from the return and let the canister pump out the water for you.

I have a 75 gallon tank. I just bought some clear tubing from Lowe's, and put one end in the tank, and then suck on the other end to get the water siphoned, and then I lay it outside, and it drains pretty fast.

Then I bring the hose in to fill the tank.

Well, I don't have to do this anymore... It's a lot more complicated now with a trop tank, but that's what I did for my old goldie tank.
