What type of pump do i need at what flow rate? drops per min?

When it's up and running you'll be getting ~1130 drops per minute - 68,000 drops per hr (3/4 gallon). So a small fountain pump (checkout harborfreight) that can handle the head pressure your setup presents with a valve to control flow

and do i need to feed the system with any thing? i rather not

No, just physically pre-filter the inlet water very well.

and for those of you who have tried this does it work?

Yes, but don't expect miracles, this is a slow (a month or more can go by before you see results) and free process so you get what you pay for ;)

any advice would be great!!!

1) Get a good test kit for this adventure, and test regularly.

2) Patience.

3) Aerate the water coming from the denitrater before returning it to the tank. Don't return it to the inlet of the sump or filter.

4) Patience

5) Don't let air get in the system or you'll be starting over (ie another month before results).

6) Patience

7) Best to just make sure the unit is dripping every day in the beginning.

8) Patience
