I recently aquired a newer vehicle and want to do some performance modifications to it. Now their is something I want to have done but I'm not entirely sure its a upgrade... I want to have my intake manifold bored and polished. My manifold looks like this.... well kinda.

If this infact a upgrade, how much would I be looking at?

Thanks

Porting & polishing is definitely an upgrade, but it usually isnt first on the list... If its a turbo motor, this mod will make everything else you do to the car that much better. I wouldnt bother if its not a force fed motor. Any good machine shop will have the tools, but more popular vehicles will have them already available with a core charge. You get the new one & send the old one back to them so they can P&P it for the next customer, then they refund a chunk of your money.

What kind of car is it (& which motor)? If you decide against the port & polish, start with intake & exhaust. I would do these together. There's no use putting more air in if you cant get it out & vice versa. After that, software upgrade, short shifter, or ignition upgrade.

Well so far I'm having a hard time finding performance parts for this newer car of mine. It's an Hyundai Accent 3 door, 2007. It has the 1.6L engine and it's an automatic. So far I tok out the donut to make it lighter, and installed a K&N air filter. On saturday I am having a catback exhaust fabricated and installed. I want this car to be somewhat fast.

If you want to make any real power with a motor that small, you will have to resort to turbocharging, supercharging, or nitrous. Until then, focus on making that little pocket-rocket handle like its on rails & gut every piece you dont need. Carpet, seats, insulation... anything you're willing to lose.

To be honest it's not worth dumping the money into it unless you have cash to spare and want a toy. You'll never get back out what you put in (money wise) and it'll never be that fast unless you just go crazy and dump a TON of money into it. Use it as what it's intended for and maybe make some exterior mods to make it "yours". It's meant to be an economical daily driver and IMO it's best to keep it that way and get a better platform for performance.

/sounding old.

my mom used to have a hyundai accent gt. thing FLEW!!! speedo topped at 130 and i had it burried. sweet car. but they dont make them like that now. dont even bother with it. if u want to, invest in a supercharger. that will give it some pep in its step

What happened to the Z?

Its for sale :( its not reliable for me to go to work and back everyday, so I must part with it :( I would love to make my own Z car but I don't have the knowledge or the money to do so.

So, right now I go to work and back in the Hyundai. With my carefull driving, I am managing just over 38 miles to the gallon with my daily drive to work being just over 60 miles (both ways). I run it on premium fuel only from Shell fueling stations. So the exhaust will need to be the last performance upgrade. At the end of summer, I plan on having the new speaker system installed in the car. Yes yes I know speakers=weight and more weight=less fast/fuel economy but oh well, I like my music.

But I do promise to have a fast car once again ;)

You might be able to get the same or better mileage on less than premium fuel. If the engine is clean (not loaded with carbon) and not designed for anything higher than 87octane then there is no reason to run premium. It actually takes more heat to fire premium than it does to fire 87 octane, which means you're pissing in the wind if you don't need it:)

Octane basically indicates the resistance to pre-detonation (knocking) which occurs when you have low octane fuel in a high compression motor.

Burn what's recommended and you'll be saving a few bucks.
