i have just bought a 240 for 2 of my little 5.5" RTC's and i have a couple ideas i thought id make sure would work before going out and buying everything for them.

I want to have a sand bottom about .5" deep ( any suggestions on color and what kind of sand? i heard pool filter sand was good ) has anyone had trouble with sand and RTC's?

Going to place maybe 15-20 semi large to large river rocks on the bottom ( where can i get these from relatively cheap? )

i also want to have 1 BIG log in the middle of the tank that will go from wide on the bottom to thin at the top and barely hit the top of the tank.( any one know where someone can find some large driftwood? )

i plan on running 2 FX5's for filtration along with 2 sponge filters on the bottom ( should this be enough filtrations for the 2 rtc's and maybe 2 pbass?) will be running 1 FX5 until i can get my hands on a second one. so maybe 2 weeks or a month

please. any suggestions are welcome. and just for this forums sake and to beat you all to it. yes i do plan on moving them into a pond hahahah :D:headbang2

any one with any thoughts/ideas/advice?

I dont know much about pool filter sand, but ive used tahitian moon sand. Its designed for aquariums and is really expensive. You could take a look at 3M. they have an inert sand that comes in several different colors.

I have always been partial to black. I think it makes the colors of the fish pop.

The rocks you can get from Home depot or a rock shop (yes there are stores that only sell rocks). You could also go to the local lake/river/reservoir and pick up rocks and then clean them.

Big driftwood is not going to come cheap, but you could try the venders here. About once a month or so there is someone who sells a lot of drift wood.

Just be carefull they grow so fast alot of those decorations are gonna have to be removed so they dont hurt themselves or knock them into the glass.

yea im probably going to go with black.. i know they willoutgrow most of the decor but i dont think 1 log with be too much of a hassle. and then just floating silk plants. i want to make it look like a river bottom as much as possible.

hey thats a good start...but where ever you put your decoration just be warned RTC's love to change their room alot =D so I just toss in whatever decoration in some differnt places and let him change it to his own liking. A River bottom will really change the settings =] which the RTC will love. Makes them feel like back in the wild

thats what im hoping for! :)
