I’ve heard plants can carry various diseases so do they need to be QT like fish? Can I put them in a tub and do a round of API general cure? How do you guys QT plants?
I’m asking because a local landscape supply has a pond section with some cool plants ( don’t know the name of the plants) but I don’t trust them like I do my usual sources.

I have never QT'd plants, but it would be helpful, especially if worried about snails or dragonfly eggs (an inert Ice cyst), to dip them
I have used alum, or potassium permanganate as a dip for plants from a pond or nature.
A splash (spoonful) of alum in a bucket, or enough potassium permanganate crystals to turn the color of the water pink (reddish), soak a while, and thoroughly rinse..... is usually enough to rid plants of pests or their eggs.

I haven’t done it myself but I have heard of some people putting the plants in a bucket with highly diluted bleach or ammonia for a few hours. They then soak them in clean water for a while,
I have no idea of the ratios of bleach to water though

I’ve tried hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate. Maybe it killed off some nasties and algae but I also lost some of the plants.

They grew back but so did those damn Malaysian Trumpet snails…tiny ones. Can’t stand them and they’re everywhere now! Have no clue how those things survive anything and come from nowhere

Bleach 19:1 ratio to water

Or 1 tablespoon alum per gallon of water

Some vals may dissolve so do a dip on these for a few minutes and rinse. I normally use alum and let the plants soak for a day or two. You can check online sources for how long to soak in bleach solution.
