new windsor/cormwall, ny
quarantine all fish no matter the source, the longer the betterr. I just bought petsmart algae otos pleco baby angels. I also bought plants from both petsmart & walmart. QT for 4days using lifeguard & jungle clear. so afr so good.

when I didn't QT a royal pleco from LFS my discus got parasites. when I didn't with my angels they got ick.

so now I will always QT!

I advise u all to do the same...

yup, sound advice . . . and as you noted, it's key to remember to QT plants as well as fish, because many (most?) LFS and chain stores will often keep live fish in with their plants, so the plants may be carrying something as well . . .

Made that mistake twice. The first time I put a betta and 4 corys in a 10 gal. Bought them from the same place, but they obviously weren't in the same tank. Dumb, dumb, dumb! Apparently the betta was carrying an aggressive flex infection, fine one day but the next day, the flex just covered his body literally within hours. The corys looked fine, but the following day, one by one, they got it and died too.

More recently, I bought some new neon tetras to add to my tetra tank. Even though since the betta/cory debacle, I've always QT'd since. For some reason, this time I didn't. Whatever the new tetras had it wiped out the whole tank in just a few days.

I've recently read at some other forum about QTing and it said "there are people who always QT, probably because they had a massive die off and learned a lesson. The people who don't QT have just been lucky".

Totally agree, sooner or later the luck will run out.

well, just to let u all know my 4days of QT was not good enough cuz. my angels caught a parasite or worms from the new $1 petsmart baby pleco.

it took 2wks to hit, still trying to fight it.
