I was wondering what a good diet for my 3.5" quad would be. Right now he gets hikari massivore delite, hikari sinking carnivore pellets, hikari sinking wafers, HBH super soft krill pellets, HBH frog and tadpole pellets, and HBH african cichlid attack pellets. I've ried offering him carrots and blanched lettuce, cucumbers, and zucchini but he has no interest in those whatsoever. Is he getting the necessary nutrition from these food items?

Also, I feed him between 5-8 times a day, but no more than what he can fit in his mouth at a time (about 1/8th of a massivore pellet, or 1-2 cichlid pellets for example). The water quality has not been negatively affected by this feeding regimine due to the fact that he eats all of the food and none of it goes to waste. Am I overfeeding my little buddy?

Thank you all so much for your time and input :headbang2

I've got a 2 " quad, and I do the massivore pellets, krill, and vegetable pellets (also used some fresh fish scraps). My guys doesn't feed the instant I drop the pellets in, but its definitely gone after an hour goes by. At 2" I do MUCH less feeding than you. Probably the same portion / meal, just one meal a day. My quad is new so I'm anxious to see the replies as well.

First and foremost, quads have a more meat matter centered diet while they're juveniles. This will slowly switch to a more vegetable matter centered diet as they reach adulthood. It's easier for them to digest the protein at this age, it also helps them grow a little more quickly. Keep some plants/vegetables (or algae/veggie pellets if you want to try a different route from plants/veggies) in with it from time to time though, as it will still nibble on them and get some nutrients from them that it isn't getting from the pellets. Also, make sure something you're giving it has calcium in it. If not, try adding a few pieces of eggshell or cuttlebone (cuttlebone will need to be weighted down as it floats) as a supplement.

And I feed my crays 3 or 4 times a day. If they're acting hungry, I feed them. As long as your buddy is eating what your feeding him and its not huge amounts, you're probably not overfeeding. ^_^
