lately ive come across packages of silversides that when thawed out seem to be old. the silversides are mushy and fall apart easily. the first two packages i ended up throwing away most and only used the best looking peices. but i cant keep throwing money in the trash. so my question is what do you guys do when you come across mushy silversides? do you still feed them to your fish?

Sorry if this is a bad place but are silversides proper name for that fish? Because I always try to get my mum to buy some at the market and she doesnt know what silversides are...

I buy them frozen as well. I have seen a couple that appeared bloated-passed on them and got the fresher looking stuff underneath. Don't feed the bad unthawed stuff to you fish, just bring back the spoiled package to the store you bought them from, get a replacement and show the manager the other bad product that i probably lingering in the same fridge you pulled from originally...
I have brought bad batches of nightcrawlers to the attention of employees showing obvious spoilage of product..It happens.
The mushiness is usually a result of the product thawing and then being refrozen possibly more than once. This inferior product should not be used. It just boils down to bad handling of their products and since it's not made for human consumption there's no regs on handling procedures.

Luckily i haven't had this problem with silversides (the only thing my leopard catfish will eat besides live) i say take them back to the store and get a refund. No sense in paying for bad food. Around here there there 10 or so for a frozen bag.
