bcoz some say they still need salt.. but only in a small amount.. i really dont know the ryt amount i should put/ watever galon

You don't need salt. To say you really have to add salt regularly is pure bunk. You are only wasting your time adding the salt for no valid reason.

they even taught me to put a handful of salt for every 20galons.. the friend who taught me that has 4 fh, 1 of em already 3yrs old and the other 1 is 1 n haf... oh man..

Handful? This is imprecise measurement when adding salt. The only time you add salt is when you are using it to battle white spot or ich. There is no need to waste your time and money over salt when water changes can do a better job maintaining your tank.

First let me respond to the OP's question, the amount for Flowerhorns would be the same as the other SA/CA cichlids, it should be 1 tablespoon of salt per every 10 gallons.....Secondly, salt is a natural antiseptic and as a result, it becomes much more difficult for a bacterial outbreak to occur in a salt laced tank. Salt can be used both as a preemptive measure or a reactionary measure against bacterial outbreaks/ infections of the fish. And lastly, all fresh water bodies contain trace amounts of salt. No fresh water lakes, ponds, rivers or streams is completely salt free, even tap water has salt in it.
