Quantity vs Quaility Article

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As soon as I saw that tank I knew it was "The House of Sam"!

So cool!

It's not a new concept or idea for those that have been in the fish hobby though.

Schooling fish prefer larger schools - duh?

I'm thinking this article is aimed more for those who have a single 10 or 20 gallon tank and have 1-2 neon tetras, 1-2 guppies, 1-2 mollies, 1 "sucker fish", etc.

This comment cracked me up

It was the first study to look at the well-being of fish in home aquariums, and the results suggest that we may owe more to our fish than just keeping them from going belly-up.

First one huh… good thing they made that amazing discovery huh…

An article describing the wide diversity of behaviors and needs found in fish commonly kept in aquariums would have been FAR more helpful to potential fish keepers…

Although the researchers being quotes are using words such as “often” and “might”, the article is written in such a way to suggest to those undereducated on the topic that this applies to most fish, which is simply not accurate.

There is still a debate about whether or not fish feels pain? Man, people are stupid.

Regarding the largest privately owned aquarium, what about the guy with a 50,000 and several 20,000 gallon tanks?

I read that the tank began leaking shortly after construction was complete. The last update I came across said there was only water in small sections and the owner had no money for repairs...

Naturally this was what I read on the internet and cannot verify the information... With the search function you may be able to find details about it on this forum, as I know there was a thread about it at some point...

lol, I just used the search function to find that lin too... and got lost looking through it and took too long to respond herre :P

FYI - It seems that I was wrong... the tank seems to be up and functioning...

To people, crowding might seem stressful and likely to spark fights, but in the real world, fish often stick more closely to each other than pet-owners might imagine. If your fish are fighting, Farrell said, adding more fish to the tank might work better than separating them.

crowding is stressful more so if the fish came from different origins and different water conditions which causes stress then disease and infections

serious hobbyist's know for a fact which fish can be kept together "schooling fish"
not all fish school

"adding more fish to the tank might work better than separating them."
would they recommened 10 black piranha's together or 10 snakeheads together in one tank even though the tank is big this species will still kill each other

the article is good but they also shouldve added that its not applicable for all types of fish
