I would like to start a 5 gallon quarantine tank but do not want run it continuously what is best way to get one going would like use it if I want to stock more fish in my main tank

the best way I've found is to not run one. have extra media in the filter or hidden in the tank that you can pull out and set up in a tank when needed. have a spare heater, air pump, and filter standing by.

I keep a couple sponge filters in all my tanks. When I need to quarantine I use some tank water add heater and use sponge filters(placed in qt when the tank temps match). Also sponges are my back up. In case of power outage I have a few battery operated pumps. Cheers!

I keep ten sponge filters in my sump. Maybe more? They are also ready if there is a power outage. 12V inverter runs a big air pump if needed.

+1. My tanks all have a lot of extra ceramic media and I just grab a bunch of it and throw it into my Marineland HOT filter and I have an instant QT/sick tank with my spare 30gal
