I know that this is nothing new. I know that most people do it. I know that every responsible person that keeps fish should. I never do but did this one time.

I just bought a bunch of characins from a reputable source. Shipped in and looked great out of the bag. Eating and swimming. I decided to put them in a spare 10 gallon because I wanted to make sure they were eating before putting them in to compete with the rest of the crew. A couple days later I noticed black spots all over their bodies and they're scratching themselves on any surface they can find.

I called a friend and ID'd them as helminths. Nice. Thank God I didn't put them in the big tank! They should be alright now that they're on something but I could have really screwed things up had I not isolated them.

hope i dont have that problem i just got comon wolf fish and introduced it to my tank without quarntine

What cha got? Fish lice?

I don't know where I heard or read this, but I like it (and take it to heart):

"The alternative to quarantining is luck."

Alway quarantine new fish and fish that are sick. It isolates the problem and it will give the new fish some time to acclimate or settle in before having to deal with other fish who might be territorial or hungry =)

i have a handful in quarantine right now... strange, all fish but the minnows i use to cycle the tank came down with ich. all the ich fish were quarantined for a week before i intro to the 55g. a week later they develop ich and go right back into quarantine tank...heheh maybe my fault for making an attempt a keeping a planted comm. tank.
