Just curious, whats everyones standard quarentine procedure for new discus, I just picked up a juvie and he is in a 10 gal, possibly 1 or 2 more juvies mid this week. Would it be ok to toss them into the 10 gal with the other one. He is being fed 4 times a day and twice daily 2.5 gal water change.

I would feed garlic puree in the quarintine for a week with feedings to fight any parasites that are common to discus !!!

How much garlic puree per feeding?

Skip the health store routine and treat with prazipro soaked food,
88dF water temps, supplement with live blackworms. Also dose the water with it to help kill any possible gill worm infestation.

Treat for any other diseases only if they actually develop and are correctly diagnosed.

It is a waste of unrecoverable time to hope for the alleged beenfits of allicin to have any effect on internal worms.

Discus should be purchased all at once, minimum of six and quarantined in a 20 gal or larger tank.

i do two weeks! with some conditioners! water a lil over 80! and sometimes some anti-fungal!
IMO your qt method isn't going to help much. 80dF is a little low for discus, and 2 weeks is very short for qt of many fish. I haven't gotten a discus yet with a heavy fungal problem, but one I had came in with severe internal problems. Garlic is a good thing to feed regularly.

yea the 80 is for other fish i havent had to quarentine too many discus!

and for the 2 weeks i get too anxiuos and just put the fish in even though its only beeen two weeks!:screwy: :D

when I put new fish into my tank, and this worked well with my discus, when in the quarantine tank, I did a half-dosage of coppersafe to the tank, and mixed praziquantel, focus (to help the meds stick to the food), and garlicguard with the frozen foods I fed. I don't think I've ever quarantined my fish for much more than two weeks before, but this is a bad habit and I should probably do it for longer - patience is a virtue. that being said, thank god I have not had any problems.

I however, have never quarentined any of my fish. I dont have any discus but I just acclimate them over a period of 30 minutes and in they go. Never had a disaease IE Ich, Velvet, Fungal Infections etc, NOTHING, in 12 Months.
