I'm setting up a quarentine tank.
50 gallon with sponge filter .
After losing 6 fish to a hitchhiker parasite I've tightened down on things. I've heard of people dosing the tank with general cure or prazipro or salt. What do you guys use to safe guard your aquariums?

Callamanus worms don’t show up right away, months even. I definitely treat for that since the one who shows it generally won’t survive infestation is so bad within

I’d just watch and treat if something shows up.
Hello; This.

I agree. Keep the new fish away from the established tanks you may have. Do not treat unless some problem comes up. I use to do QT for a couple of weeks but now do a month or more. The longer the better, but it will depend on how long you can stand it.

in a nutshell - “how long you can stand it”

i know we are all eager when we get new fish and shortcuts happen - i’m super guilty....

good tip on the longer the better to QT -

i usually put some salt - not therapeutic amount but enough to heal fins and shipping injuries -

so much to learn in the disease area....

GL!

I typically keep the fish in quarantine for a month and treat for anything if I see it. Eventually, when I’ve learned to be more patient and have likely suffered a lot more losses due to impatience, I’ll up the quarantine to 3/6/12 months. I remember reading about a specific public aquarium and they quarantined for 12 months and they have tens of thousands of live stock.
