Is there anything specifically needed for a quarintine tank? should there be chemicals or meds needed to be added? pls enlighten me Thank's in advance guys.

Great question! Is a sponge, a tube, and an air stone all you need? Do you just put the new fish in there for a few days with no food and watch for any sickness? Sorry, Calmwaters, not trying to take over the thread, just thinking the same thought.

1) I use 10-20gL. You don't need all that extra space for a few days-weeks. This will also save you on meds (if you are going to use them).

2) I leave the substrate out. Easier to clean and easier to dose meds (not taking up extra volume when meds are for exact gallons).

3) Good heater that has a thermostat. This way if you see an ich out break, you can bump up the temp exactly, not just "1 or 2 clicks".

4) Air pump and sponge filter. Cheap, gives good biological filtration, some but not too much water movement. I keep a spare in one of my larger tanks so I never have to "cycle" the tank, and can break it down.

5) I keep different size pots and random "cave" type decorations. The only criteria is that they have to be easy to sanitize. I completely break down and sanitize everything after quarantines. Giving the fish something to hide in will make it less stressful.

6) whatever else you see fit. I add stress coat to all my quarantines. Some say this is not necessary, but I find it is easier on the fish. Then again, some people blindly dose broad spectrum antibiotics (to kill any potential problems), but I think this is completely unnecessary.

Light is even optional. For a stressed fish, low light levels will help calm it... room light should be enough. Then again, having a good over head light will help identify any problems.

Good luck!
