Now that I have a decent sized tank I am using one of my old ones for a QT. My questions are: do you automatically treat the tank and if so with and for what. #2, how long should I quarantine New arrivals. Last, do any of you think I should use my UV units on the QT tank?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I personally qt with the only purpose is to observe and watch and see if any problem arises. For me, this means a qt of about 3+ months. I don't use any meds because meds such as antibiotics can create superbugs which can in turn wipe out your entire stock in the future. However, the only time I use meds is when a fish is wild caught, then I treat for parasites during the qt period.

Agree with xraycer.
Unless you know what to treat for, what would you use to treat?
And quarantine is not only to prevent the new fish from bringing parasites in, the fish you already have, may be immune to something the new fish isn't.
I always add water from existing tanks to prepare the new fish for what its in for.
And then if symptoms arise, treatment should to target whatever the symptoms call for.
For some diseases such as ich, you raise temps, for other bacterial diseases such as ducklips, you lower temps, and each require different additives.
