Wes sent me 4 green Hoplias lacerdae 3 years ago in Aug-Sept 2015 as a surprise. They were ~4".

They have been easy to feed in 240 gal taking sinking and floating pellets and thawed fish. About a year ago they went into the 4500 gal, feeding on the same but not competing too well because the bowfin took it thoroughly upon itself to show the wolves that they are not welcome here every time they bump into each other, so they stay away from the bowfin and from prime feeding spots but thankfully the bowfin doesn't seek them out throughout the whole tank.

The bowfin took one eye out of one wolf. The wolves had been growing thin so now they remain the only fish in the 4500 gal that still get hand fed thawed fish off tongs. The bowfin is about 20"-21", the wolves are about 16"-17".

Other than that, they appear peaceful and do not initiate any trouble of their own accord. They do not quarrel among themselves, not that I noticed and not that that would be memorable.

We have just lost one for no obvious reason, so I know their current size.

Ha! Funny guys. How 'bout you do the buying and I'll do the tossing... when and where at my discretion. That will cool you, hot heads.

What am I? Made of money?

Alright, stop tampering with my thread or else! If I was made of money, I'd not be building a DIY Aquarium for 7 years now and blowing out my lower back a couple times each year. I'd buy Shedd or better Georgia Aquarium and watch whale sharks in 6.3 million gallons from a couch.

When it rains, it pours. Another one has thrown in the towel in short succession. This one has been thin for a long time, about half a year at least, if not a year. It only reached 15"-16".

The reason for the thinness / poor appetite and the passing is unknown, albeit we have had columnaris taking out fish in the last half a year.

Dont know how you even treat columnaris in such a large tank. My aimara had it and I successfully treated but that was because he was small enough to fit in a 40g at the time. He is still badly scarred from it though.
