I bought a pair of jewel cichlids last Friday. I thought they may have been a pair because they were holding off all the other jewels from a particular corner of the LFS fish tank. After coming home today from my weekend trip, to my surprise the two (Indeed a pair) were guarding some yellow eggs on a piece of slate in my aquarium. They currently share a 20 gal with another lone small cichild [the tank was sectioned off with a divder, secluding the breeding pair.]

Is there anything I can do to assist in making sure that the brood will be sucessful? Currently tank - Temp 80F, PH 7.2, Ammonia / Nitrate/ Nitrite - zero, or close to zero. Should I bother feeding the pair? change water (how much)? leave them alone?

Any tips or sugguestions would be greatly appreciated thanks! :D

Just keep the water good and they seem to do fine. I have never had to do anything special, the fry will eat any kind of dry food that you are feeding the parents.

ok... thats good to know. thanks!

so how long do you leave them with the parents? The frys started swimming today. (not just wiggling anymore.) I have about 150+ frys swimming around. poor parents are trying to herd them all the time. hehe any info would be great. thanks!

I haven't taken little ones out and they have been fine, they are 2" now... the parents don't seem to ming them.
