I would like to track down some RED TAIL tinfoil barbs (barbonymus altus, not barbonymus schwanfeldii !!!) Since they don't grow as big. I realize that most LFS sell tinfoils, but I think the schwanfeldiis are most common. Anyone know a place/vendor that would have these? I know it's a tall order, so thanks for any info!

Petsmart if you have one close.

The ones that they have are schwanenfeldi and not altus. The former are the kind that grow HUGE. Altus supposedly only grow to around 8".

Are you going by their stickers at PetSmart? I had 5 Tinfoils that I bought at different times and they were all Altus. So I know the PetSmarts down here carry the Altus rather then the Schwanenfeldi. I think it is harder to tell when they are young because you can't see if they are just going to have the red tail or the red and black tail. Maybe just get some and if as they grow they turn out to be the Schwanenfeldi you could just trade them in somewhere???....

When I was a the aquatics manager there, I came across 5 different breeds so just keep your eyes open.

I GOT ONE...10-11"...POSTED IT IN THE SOCAL MEET FOR SALE THREAD

I figured the tags weren't 100% correct. But it IS hard to tell when they are young. Black lines on the fins means schwanenfeldi, right?
