I am in the process of making 55g sump for my 325g tank.

it is standard 48 by 12 tank and i was wondering what the dimension of the baffle should be to fit the 12" do i have the glass cut as exactly 12 inch? or is it little less? I am trying to make 12? x 18 roughly by local glass shop for the baffles. should it be something like 11 3/4? 11 7/8? 12? and how thick should the glass be that's strong enough to hold 25 gallons of pressure? i plan to baffle it right in the middle.

Well - I am not sure if the ID are all the same, but I am currently building my 55G sump baffles and the width inside is 12 3/16" exactly. Top to bottom it is almost 18" to the rim. My first baffle is 12 3/16" x 17 1/4" to start my waterfall effect I'm working on. Just siliconed my first baffle lastnight - quite messy. I designed the whole thing in Google Sketchup and am going to run both a wet/dry trickle design at the beginning and submerged media and UV sterilizer at the other end before the pump return.
